The Buildup: Mermaids Under the Falls

11 Oct

We woke early Saturday morning and called our Thai friend from the night before to bring the Black Pearl.

We grabbed breakfast, then were off.
It was an hour journey to the falls, and we wanted an early start.

Riding in the back of a truck in Thailand is by far the best and most fun way to get around. We had the Pearl to ourself the whole day, and decided to enjoy our time hanging out the back.

I can never resist hanging off the back. The wind in your face. The scenery all around you.
It’s unbelievable

We stopped on the side of the road to enjoy a view of the river.

Our journey into the falls was like nothing any of us expected.

Jungle all around us, there were 7 different falls to be seen. We made sure we saw them all.

Each was more beautiful than the next.

Toby planked a hanging branch.

Water was higher than ever. We ended up walking thorough many of the falls to get to the next stage.

We found a huge fallen tree. It was about 6-7 feet above the ground. Water underneath us and jungle all around us. Sven and I decided to have a Kung Fu Fight along it.

Jaan Martin Surfed it.

I decided to plank it.

As we continued our journey, we made it up to what we thought was the very top. Kevin was turning back, as we realized that we had more to go. Walking through what was quite tough terrain, we made up to the top. The final waterfall was finally found.

As I turned round the bend, I looked and saw in the distance a group of mermaids sitting underneath the falls. Mist surrounding them with a blurry and majestic haze. Through the fog and mist I saw the faces of these girls looking towards us with smiles and the sounds of giggles.
I closed my eyes. Opened them again, only to find that it was not a dream.
I had found paradise.

Excitement took over any fears we had, and we headed into the falls.

We exchanged few words with the majestic mermaid-like women. In fear of them being seductive sirens, we kept our distance with them.

After enjoying the falls, we headed back down to the Black Pearl.
Our next stop was the great dam.
An amazing view of the lake was to be seen.

We decided that the River Kwai was somewhere we had to see for ourselves. Quite a famous place, as depicted in the 1950s movie, Bridge Over the River Kwai.

The history behind the Bridge was quite amazing to hear. So many lives went into the building of the railway.

Not even 24 hours in, and the place was already more than amazing.
The day, and the weekend would only bring about more fun as time went by.
